Brand new cartoon museum in Turkey 2012/05/19

One of the participants of the cartoon museum conference in September will be the Atila Ozer’s Cartoon House. This brand new cartoon museum has been opened as a cartoon house for researchers, students and art lovers by Vicdan Bulunmaz Ozer, the wife of Atila Ozer (who passed away last year).

The museum is in the house of Atila and Vicdan, where Vicdan is accepting visitors to see original works of Atila Ozer as well as his personal items.

Prof. Dr. Atila Ozer was born in Burdur in 1949. He was graduated from State Engineering and Architecture Academy (1973). He had his post graduate degree in “Communication Arts” from Anadolu University Social Sciences Institute (1985). He had “Competency in Art” in “Graphics” from Marmara University Social Sciences Institute (1986).  He became Associate Professor in 1995 and Professor in 2001 in Anadolu University.

He was interested in cartoon art as a cartoonist and researcher. He was the founder and the director of the Anadolu University Cartoon Art Research Center and Eskisehir Cartoon Museum which was established as part of the Research Center (2002-2011). He opened 13 personal exhibitions and published 11 books. He had 15 awards from international and 35 from national contests. He published 52 articles in various newspapers and magazines. His works has been accepted by museums abroad and purchased by various institutions.


  • In 1978, he opened an exhibition in Hortu village where Nasreddin Hodja was born.
  • In 1983, he established Anadolu University Cartoon Club.
  • In 1984, he instructed the first cartoon lecture in Turkish Universities in Anadolu University’s Faculty of Communication Sciences and he continued to give lectures since his death.
  • In 2002, he established Anadolu University Cartoon Art Research Center.
  • In 2004, he established Eskisehir Anadolu University Cartoon Museum as a part of the Cartoon Art Research Center.
  • In 2009, he organized the 1st Cartoon Museum Directors Meeting in Eskisehir in order to establish World Cartoon Museums Union.
