I am a big fan of Nina Simon, the Executive Director of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History . Her book The Participatory Museum inspired me a lot in the search for creating connectivity with the public of the European Cartoon Center and her blog is simply great: inspiring content and nice to read.
In one of her latest blog posts, she talks about the fact that it is sometimes very difficult to get visitors, even if they had a very great time in the museum, to come back for a next visit. She convinced me by the fact that we need to pay more attention to the visitor who is leaving the museum, because at that moment they are more open to make a long term commitment with the museum.
My favourite quote: ‘We’re talking about shifting from having “greeters” to having “goodbyers” who thank you for coming and invite you to a next specific event.’
You should really read the post yourselves Whats the string that ties one experience at your institution with the next, and I hope we can discuss about this theme at the conference.</p
